Excursion in Lofoten

Lofoten is an archipelago in northwest Norway. The islands are known for their enchanting landscapes, between sea and mountains.

Full-day guided bus tour

Off the coast of Norway rise the Lofoten and Vesterålen: for a hundred kilometers, a succession of jagged and dark cliffs seem to rise from the waters, a tightly clustered string of islands easily imagined as a paradise for fishermen. Sharp peaks plunge steeply into the open sea. The rock, about three million years old, rises in an almost vertical wall, creating an extraordinary backdrop.

Behind this barrier, peaceful meadows open up to the visitor, revealing fishing villages nestled in every cove. At the end of a small road, tucked at the bottom of a narrow fjord, is the village of Nusfjord, perhaps the most picturesque fishing port on the island of Flakstadøy. This tiny fishing village received funding in 1975 during the European Year of Architectural Protection. As a result, the traditional fishermen's houses, called "rorbuer," were beautifully renovated. The site is now listed by UNESCO.

Lunch at a restaurant.

Continue with a visit to Å, a charming little village that for a long time was the most important fishing village in the region. From this fishing tradition, a museum was born, allowing visitors to relive the activities of a fishing port in the 19th century through fourteen buildings, each with its own function, such as cod liver oil production, bread-making, and blacksmithing.

Return to the ship in the late afternoon.
